Odds and Ends (emphasis on CC ends)

Just some random stuff (mostly cool stuff I got at Circuit City)....

1. Good bye Circuit City.  I was never a big fan of yours, but I did enjoy the sale.  My best "steal" was a waterproof case for my Flip camera ($5 was a steal).  Now, to come up with an idea for using it underwater.
2. Spending a lot (too much) time at blip.fm.  I actually found Disco Duck there!!
3. My wife just returned from back-to-back weekends in Chicago with son #2 at state wide swim meets.  He kicked some rear, and she brought me back a cool gift.  She knows me really well.
4. Still liking my netbook.  Again, courtesy of CC's misfortune.
5. Looking at a tough spring/early summer/fall.  Oldest graduates high school and will be heading off to college.  Early indications are that my wife will be an emotional train wreck.  She has already cried during our trip back from a college visit.  
6. Starting to hit another one of those career evaluations.  Seems to creep up on me every spring.  
7. I recommend that anyone who would like to easily record events look at the Flip camera.  I got one at Christmas, and have used it at bball games, swim meets, and just around the house.  It is the easiest video camera I have ever used.  Simple, limited functionality, but perfect for a goof like me.  It's great not lugging around all the stuff associated with a typical camera.  And David Arquette uses one......
8. Finally, my last purchase at CC was an Archos 605 Wifi (80 gig).  It is one of the coolest gadgets I have gotten in some time.  Little tip to those running the CC rumage sale.  When you have items like these, it is a bad idea to lock them in a freakin closet, sitting sideways.....unless, of course, you are hoping to score them at the end of the day.

Sweet Justice...and other stuff

It sure has been a while. Between work, home, kids and a nasty sore throat/cold I have had very little WHW time. I am actually still on the mend physically. Taking me a long time to shake this bug.

Anyway, just a few short notes tonight.

First, I want to publicly apologize to my team members from work. I know several read this blog. I was unable to motivate myself to work tonight.....and spent a lot of the evening watching videos of news anchors that fart on the air, a recent Simpson's clip where Bart ticks off Jack Bauer, and some 80's MTV videos (Pete Townshend singing "Let My Love Open The Door" is cool)...when I should have been working. Also, I have talking to everyone (chit-chatting) a lot at work lately. My "problem" is that I really like the people I work with. They are friends more than co-workers. How cool is that? Not real cool for them, if I am constantly pestering them.

Next, as I sat in the bathroom today at work, a brilliant idea hit me. Why don't they put the fold up and out tables on toilets? So, as I am sitting there, I could pull my table top out and set a newpaper on it, rest my head on it, send emails, etc. Anyone interested in running with this idea??? Just send me 25% of the money you make from Kohler.

Next, sweet justice. A few days ago, as I walked down a long hall at work, I noticed some guy just railing on a girl. They were standing a few feet in front of a bathroom entrance. And he was just laying into her. Of course, in one of my "Mrs. Kravitz" moment I had to slow down my walking pace (which is virtually impossible for me to slow down and keep moving forward) and listen in. Seems the lady had not adequately addressed a need of his project. Anyway, as the chucklehead finished his tirade, he turns around and storms into the restroom. Unfortunately for him, those were the lady's restrooms. Sweet, sweet justice.

Next, for those interested, here are the top five suppers I had growing up. See if you recognize a pattern.

1. Soup beans and corn bread
2. Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, and, in the summer, tomatoes and corn from the garden
3. Round steak pounded out so thin that you could see through it, floured and fried.
4. SOS (aka sh!t on a shingle, aka chipped beef and gravy on toast)
5. Meatloaf and mashed potatoes
6. side note: a special snack was a radish sandwich.

Finally, my odd-ball magnetism continues to work its magic. At the gas station the other day I was approached by someone who started off saying, "You look really familiar" and ended with..."Have you ever heard of Amway?" Then, at Best Buy, as I stood in the video games section (looking for a PSP game I would enjoy) someone decided to explain to me what a piece of "crap" the PSP was, how Sony is evil, and how the Sega GameGear had been far superior. Fortunately, given their stance on Sony, I was spared the obligatory Beta better than VHS discussion.

Not This Again!

I must have ticked her off. It's the only explanation I have.

This evening it is very, very cold. Unfortunately, we needed some groceries before tomorrow. Don't ask me why(it has to do with a women's club meeting). Anyway, being the gentleman that I am, I insisted on driving 20 miles to Walmart.

On the way out I heard...I also need some nailpolish for tomorrow's meeting. Ooooo.

Then she told me I needed to buy 2 different lite pink shades, 2 dark red shades, and 2 "warm" shades in between. UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH. If you haven't read previous postings, I will hip you to something Mrs. WHW knows...I am color blind. Pink, red, and "warm"? I see about two colors of polish.

Then she told me...."Don't spend too much. But don't buy the cheap stuff, either." To which I replied, "how do I know what is the cheap stuff?" Response, "It doesn't dry very well". My rebuttal, "How in the world can I buy polish and know how well it drys??!!" All I got was a nice grin and a "thanks, hunny". Damn...she used hunny.

On the way out, my 2nd oldest said, "Mom, what will the checker think when dad brings up all that nail polish?" Then two things hit me:

1. He got his smurk from his mom
2. In my stress of knowing colors, the male image thing completely slipped me. Double suck.

I got to Walmart and proceeded to grab 7 little bottles of polish. Some pink...some red...some possibly orange.....

I figure I can avoid the checker thing by using self checkout. I scanned all my stuff, then the last thing, a bunch of bananas locked it up. It froze on the "Skip Bagging?" question. Triple suck.

Then a lady came over and said she would manually do a check out. I'm sure I was imagining it, but I am pretty sure she gave me the suspicious eye when she scanned the 6th bottle of polish.

Upon arriving home, I was greeted with a...."You did very well".
